Taylor Swift sends Don McLean flowers
Don McLean has received an unexpected bouquet of flowers from Taylor Swift, after she took over a nearly fifty-year-old chart record from him last week. The singer shared a photo of the gift via Twitter, which included a personal note from Swift.
The singer writes that she is a fan of #McLean and that his music means a lot to her. “Dear greetings from one writer of long songs to another”, it reads.

Swift scored a No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 last week with her 10-minute and 13-second song All Too Well. Never before has such a long song been in the first place of the American chart.
McLean had set the record in 1972 with his iconic hit American Pie (Parts I & II),which lasted 8 minutes and 37 seconds.
McLean responded via Twitter. “No one likes to resign the first place,” he wrote. “But if I have to lose to someone, then preferably to a fantastic singer like #Taylor. Heartily!”
