Ten years after the 7-1, Neuer recalls the rout
– international sports, latest sports news, local games and international games
This Monday (8), marks ten years since the terrifying 7-1 between Brazil and Germany in the 2014 World Cup. The game took place at Mineirão, valid for the semi-final.
During the match, the German national team's goalkeeper did not expect that Brazil, who had started the match dominating the field, would reach the end of the game with one of the biggest defeats in the history of the World Cup.
Remember some events
Germany was ahead on the scoreboard in the first 11 minutes of the match, when Thomas Muller scored for the German team. Soon after, in the 23rd minute, Brazil found themselves at a greater disadvantage. From that moment on, Germany took the lead and, at the end of the first half, the game was already 5-0.
In an exclusive interview, goalkeeper Manuel Neuer spoke about the feeling during the historic rout.
“That day, everything just fell into place. And that’s why it was important to defend the first opportunity that Brazil had, and also to score the first goal.”said the German.
Neuer: “It wasn’t normal that every chance ended in a goal”
Germany's starting goalkeeper in the 7-1 win revealed behind the scenes footage from the dressing room during the break in the match, which turns ten years old this Monday.

The goalkeeper also commented on the change in the fans' behavior and the way they expressed themselves in light of the result:
“I can remember everything. The atmosphere was a bit heated at the beginning, I would even say a little hostile towards us. But as the game went on, that transferred to the Brazilian team itself. The fans were angry with their team. Then came the anger and, of course, you could see the sadness growing. They were very, very disappointed with their own team.”
Traumas generated
After the rout in 2014, Brazil and Germany have only faced each other once, this time in a friendly match in 2018. This time, Brazil won 1-0, but even with the favorable result, it did not make all the traumatic issues go away.
“The problem for Brazil was simply that they somehow didn’t win the individual duels, and we were cold. We simply had the right players on the pitch, who took advantage of every situation to score goals.”Neuer added about the Brazilian team's performance at the time.
The 2014 team had, at that time, two very important absences for the time: striker Neymar Júnior and defender Thiago Silva, who were strong causes for the defeat.
