Thales Bretas is moved by the unveiling of statues in honor of Paulo Gustavo

On Monday (22), dermatologist Thales Bretas spoke to Revista Quem very emotionally while participating in the inauguration of two statues in Niterói in honor of comedian Paulo Gustavo, who died of Covid-19. According to Thales: “I went to Rio, met Paulo, and ended up falling in love with him and Niterói. I think it's really cool that he always portrays it in his films. He really spoke about the city with a lot of love and affection, and I think he really managed to portray that to the whole of Brazil. He carried that everywhere and into his home as well.”.

The inauguration was also attended by Déa Lúcia, the presenter's mother, who made a point of attending the event even in a wheelchair, as the artist's mother had suffered a domestic accident. According to Déa: “Fat, 74 years old, in a rush to deal with the wind, I pulled the door from the kitchen area with all my strength and the handle came off in my hand. I came back picking up shavings. I tried to hold on to the sink, turned around and hit my knee. I went to the hospital. My knee is huge, but there was no fracture. It is very swollen, I have osteoarthritis. I had to immobilize it, but I said, 'Nothing will stop me, I'm going to Niterói. In a wheelchair, but I'm going.'”'.

To honor the comedian from Niterói, two busts measuring 1.82 cm were made, one of which shows Paulo sitting at a chess table, and the other pays homage to Dona Hermínia, the main character in Minha Mãe é uma Peça, which made the actor famous in Brazilian theater and cinema. But the tributes didn't stop there, as the book Campo de São Bento: Trajetórias e Memórias do Parque Prefeito Ferraz was also launched at the Paschoal Carlos Magno Cultural Center, in which Paulo Gustavo was also honored.
