With a touch of philosophical lyrics that encourage the public to discover their own truths in their everyday situations, the punk rock band Skarno, from São Paulo, has been preparing to produce new works. Created in May 2014 under the name “Escarniokratas”, the group focuses on the work of cynicism, sarcasm and irony in their compositions. “We try to bring the truth where everyone hides it, in our innermost desire that the worse the better”said Rudi, the band’s lead singer.

With more than 7 years on the road, Skarno started with just two people: the vocalist, guitarist and composer Rudi, and the drummer and composer Vanessa. In January 2016, former member and bassist Fellipe “Irmãozinho” joined the group after a very busy period, with the band releasing 50 demo copies entitled “Feliz Moralismo”, containing 18 songs.

Despite this, the trio was short-lived and Felippe ended up leaving the group in the same year. After a long period with just Rudi and Vanessa producing shows as a duo, in January this year bassist Alex “Fininho” and solo guitarist Erick “Papito” joined the band. Previously just called “Escarniokratas”, in 2021 the group appears with the project name Banda Skarno.

“Skarno came from the need to simplify the name 'Escarniokratas', coming from the idea of a proper name to describe cynicism, sarcasm and irony, components in the lyrics, visual art and personality of the band members. With our producer Monah as the light for the new name”, Rudi explained.

Living a new phase, the band is preparing for the release of the song “Morto Vivo”, which has the idea of being a social critique on relationships between people in a period of high consumerism and “robotization” caused by technological facilities. . Following inspiration from bands like Ramones, Nirvana, Ultraje a Rigor, Alice in Chains and others, Skarno will soon release a new EP that will mark the beginning of a cycle of experiences, new audiences and recognition of the work.

“The inspiration for 'Morto Vivo' comes from Vanessa's observation of the behavior of the people around her in her former service, where few spoke to each other. People didn't get off their phones and paid little attention to their essential duties, after all, they were all nurses. In general, this can be perceived as alienating people through technology, not noticing people close to them, but complaining about family members and how 'unfair' life is”, revealed Rudi.
