TikTok faces US ban in 2025

TikTok consumers in the United States are about to be left without access to the platform. Last Friday it was informed by the appeals court demanding a law that sells the app by its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, otherwise it will be banned in the country. From January 19, 2025, this measure could come into effect, leaving more than 170 million Americans without access.

This decision could harm entrepreneurs, content creators and income generation who depend on the application to promote their businesses. App stores that break the rules and offer TikTok are subject to fines.

THE TikTok will appeal to the Supreme Court for a temporary suspension of the law while the case is analyzed. If the request is accepted, the January 19th deadline may be postponed.

According to the partner at Boies Schiller Flexner, Josh Schiller, “the Supreme Court may consider this case as a matter of national security, given its majority conservative composition.

But there is still a possibility that the court will not review the case, which will leave TikTok with no chance of reversing the case.

Trump, who will assume the presidency just one day after the deadline, has the power to influence an important role for the future of TikTok. In his previous term, he even tried to ban the platform, but now he is showing signs of support.
