Titan submarine wreckage found, but bodies still missing

Even after the wreckage of the Titan submarine was found this Thursday (22), it is still not known whether the bodies of the five passengers who were on board will be rescued. The US Coast Guard, which led the search, said the robots that were employed in the operation will remain at sea to gather more evidence and try to figure out what happened. The vessel imploded during an expedition to the remains of the Titanic ship.

At a press conference, Admiral John Mauger reported that he still did not have an answer about the bodies and also spoke about the “unforgiving” environment on the seabed.

The wreckage of the submarine is about 500 meters from the Titanic and in a very deep place, about 4,000 meters from the surface. In this part of the ocean, because it is very deep, the water pressure is higher, making it riskier for divers to search for bodies.

In addition, there is little visibility in the depths, because the sunlight does not reach the bottom and the sediments interfere with the artificial lights. Because of these reasons, locating bodies in these conditions is extremely difficult. There is still concern about currents, which means that the bodies may not be standing still, but being carried from one location to another.

The company OceanGate confirmed the death of the five people who were on the vessel, on a tourist expedition to see parts of the remains of the Titanic. The ship disappeared last Sunday (18) and the ruins were only found this Thursday (22), by a probe taken to the site by a Canadian ship, called Horizon Artic.

On the vessel were researchers, businessmen and even the founder of OceanGate, identified as Hamish Harding, Shahzada and Suleman Dawood, Paul-Henry Nargeolet and Stockton Rush, the latter being the founder. The bodies have not yet been found.
