Tottenham Hotspur humiliates Van de Beek’s ailing Everton

Tottenham Hotspur booked a resounding victory in the Premier League on Monday evening. The team of manager Antonio Conte had no child at relegation candidate Everton, where Donny van de Beek had a starting spot: 5-0.

Tottenham have been hit and miss lately, but ailing Everton couldn’t take advantage of that. In fact, ‘The Toffees’ were overrun and fell behind clumsily after fourteen minutes. Michael Keane shot into his own goal after a tight cross from Ryan Sessegnon.

Three minutes later the 2-0 was already a fact. After a flowing attack, Son Heung-min saw his long-lasting shot disappear into the goal under the body of keeper Jordan Pickford. In the 37th minute Harry Kane ensured that the game was already decided before half-time. 

The striker was sent off on the edge of offside and shot flawlessly.

After the break, it only became more painful for Everton, which was completely exposed. The 4-0 followed after just 43 seconds of play in the second half.

 Sergio Reguilon, who had just come in, worked in a cross tailored to Dejan Kulusevski. In the 55th minute, Kane completed his second goal of the evening after another clumsy loss of possession at Everton, which was spared a bigger defeat.

Kane now has 176 Premier League goals, surpassing Thierry Henry (175 goals) in the eternal rankings. The 28-year-old striker needs one more league goal to match Everton manager Frank Lampard.

Van de Beek participated 59 minutes at Everton, where Anwar El Ghazi remained on the bench. Steven Bergwijn made his appearance on behalf of Tottenham in the 67th minute as a substitute. 

Dele Alli, who played 269 games for the ‘Spurs’ and left for Everton in January, was allowed to play the last twenty minutes against his old club.

The marked defeat in London is a new damper for Everton, which also cannot convince under the manager Lampard appointed at the end of January and is in relegation distress. Everton are just one point above the relegation zone.

Tottenham hope that the 5-0 win is the beginning of the end of a mixed period. Conte’s team has not performed consistently in the competition and was knocked out of the FA Cup by Championship club Middlesbrough last week.

Tottenham are currently seventh on three points behind number four Arsenal in the Premier League. The top four will secure a Champions League ticket for next season.
