Trump maintains policy in favor of federal abortion ban

Donald Trump came out publicly on Thursday (22) to counter a statement made by Tim Walz, who is running alongside Kamala Harris for the presidency. Walz had said last night (21) that the Republican Party would ban abortion anywhere in the country, with or without congressional approval. The current governor of Minnesota made the statement during a speech at the Democratic National Convention.

Trump's response

The former president ratified what he thinks about the ban on abortion on US soil and, in the same interview with Fox News, responded to the Democratic candidate's statement by insisting that “there will not be a federal ban.” At the same time, he praises the role he himself played in appointing judges to the Supreme Court.

The former president once again stated that the Democrats said at the Convention that he wants a federal ban, which he would never do. He also stated that his political opponents know that he had already said this, that there will be no ban that applies to the federal level. That decision has now gone back to the states, he concluded.

Visit to the border

Trump was in Cochise County, Arizona, on Thursday. The city was once a necessary stop for coal and water supplies for locomotives, and today the Republican needed to visit the US-Mexico border as part of his campaign.

With this return to the presidential race, Donald Trump is no stranger to avoiding direct issues that involve access to abortion. This is despite what he said in April when asked if he were re-elected to the White House whether he would sign a nationwide abortion ban.

With his current position, he ends up contradicting himself, since in 2016, in his first presidential candidacy, he said nothing about the issue, remaining indifferent throughout the term he received.
