Tumor in testicle discovered in former Ajax striker Sébastien Haller: ‘Shock for all of us’

Sébastien Haller was diagnosed with a tumor in his testicle on Monday. The striker, who left Ajax for Borussia Dortmund this summer, has left the German club’s training camp to undergo further examinations.

After Monday’s training session, Haller did not feel well and reported to dortmund’s medical staff. Over the course of the day, further medical examinations revealed a tumor in a testicle.

It is not yet known whether it is a good or malignant tumor. The 28-year-old Haller has now travelled back to Dortmund from the training camp in the Swiss town of Bad Ragaz. In the coming days, more examinations will take place in a specialized medical center.

“This news was a shock to Sébastien and to all of us,” said Borussia Dortmund technical director Sebastian Kehl. “The whole BVB family wishes Sébastien a recovery as soon as possible. We will do everything in our power to ensure he receives the best possible treatment.”

Haller played for Ajax for the past year and a half and made the switch to Dortmund this summer for a transfer fee of 31 million euros. He signed a contract there this month until mid-2026.

In addition to Ajax, Haller played in the Netherlands from 2015 to 2017 for FC Utrecht. The Ivorian international was also under contract with AJ Auxerre, Eintracht Frankfurt and West Ham United, who all support their former player.
