Twitter founder Jack Dorsey reacts,
Jack Dorsey, co-founder and former director of Twitter, has in an initial reaction positive about the sale of Twitter to billionaire Elon Musk. Dorsey calls Musk “the only solution” for how the company should proceed in the future.
Dorsey posted a series of tweets in the night from Monday to Tuesday (Dutch time) in which he says he supports musk’s takeover of Twitter. He started his posts with a link to the song Everything In Its Right Place by the British band Radiohead.
“I love Twitter,” he writes. “Twitter brings us close to global awareness. That idea and the service mean everything to me and I would do everything possible to protect that.”
Dorsey calls Twitter as a company his only problem and his biggest regret. “The company is now owned by Wall Street and the advertising model. Taking the company off the stock exchange is a good start.”
Freedom of expression becomes the most important
Elon Musk has announced that he wants to take Twitter off the stock exchange. He wants to turn it into a private company. According to him, this is necessary to make adjustments that should ensure that Twitter “reaches its full potential”.
Musk says he sees it as his task to make Twitter the platform for freedom of expression. He will pay about 44 billion dollars (41 billion euros) for the acquisition.
According to Dorsey, Twitter shouldn’t have an owner. “It’s a collective good at the protocol level and shouldn’t be a company. But Elon is the only one I think is capable of solving that problem.”
Incidentally, not everyone is happy that Musk will be the new owner of Twitter. For example, critics are afraid that the freedom to say anything may lead to more racism and bullying behavior.
The employees also fear that the platform under Musk will act less harshly against hate messages.
