Ukraine asks Apple to stop operations in Russia

Mykhailo Fedorov, Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation , has written a letter to Apple CEO Tim Cook asking to stop providing Apple services and products in Russia. He also asks whether Apple wants to close the Russian App Store.

In the letter that Fedorov also posted on Twitter , he asks whether Apple wants to join the sanctions announced worldwide against Russia. “The whole world is warding off the aggressor by imposing sanctions.

By 2022, modern technology may be the best answer to tanks, multiple rocket launchers and missiles,” he writes in an attempt to convince Apple’s CEO.

Ukraine asks Apple to stop operations in Russia

Apple has an online store in Russia and offers a local version of its App Store in that country. Last year, it complied with a Russian legal requirement to promote apps from local developers.

According to Bloomberg news agency , the company has also registered an office in Moscow in recent months and posted job openings in Moscow, presumably to comply with local regulations.

Russia has had a law since last year that requires tech companies such as Apple, Google and Meta to have a physical office in Russia.
