Ukraine – Russian

Russian troops bombed a theater in the Ukrainian port city of Mariupol on Wednesday in which hundreds of civilians were hiding. That says deputy mayor Sergei Orlov to the BBC. It is still unknown how many victims there were in the attack.

According to Orlov, at the time of the airstrike, there were one thousand to twelve hundred people in the building. Unverified images on Twitter show that the theater is completely in ruins.

The city council of Mariupol spoke on the telegram service about a terrible and inhumane act. The theatre would serve as the largest shelter in the city.

Earlier on Wednesday, Ukrainian authorities reported that a Russian rocket attack killed a group of civilians trying to flee the besieged city. Among the victims would also be children.

The exact number of deaths has yet to be determined.

In recent days, approximately twenty thousand inhabitants managed to leave the surrounded city in vehicles via special escape routes. According to the Ukrainian government, at least 200,000 civilians have to leave Mariupol quickly and the city is struggling with shortages of almost everything.
