Ukrainians don’t give up Chernihiv
The majority of the Russian troops are still at least 50 kilometers away from the center of the Ukrainian capital Kiev on Friday. The military wanted to take the northern city of Chernihiv and push through to Kiev, but that plan failed. According to the West, it marks the disappearing momentum on the Russian side.
The British Ministry of Defense reported on Friday afternoon that there are problems on the Russian side. Brave defenses from Chernihiv have forced the Russians to map out a new route, which means that the bulk of the force is still unable to support the siege of Kiev.
Once arrived in the Ukrainian capital, the defense will not diminish. Ukraine has explained to residents on national television how to make Molotov cocktails (a type of incendiary bomb) to frustrate the Russian military.
In addition, any resident who wants to fight against the Russians could pick up a weapon and Ukrainian army vehicles drove into Kiev on Friday to defend the city.
American intelligence services, in turn, conclude that, although Russia is firing on military bases with many air strikes, most communication channels on the Ukrainian side remain intact for the time being. As a result, Ukrainian commanders remain in control, a senior US defense official is quoted as saying by Reuters .

Putin wants Ukrainian army to seize power
Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed the Ukrainian military for the first time on Friday. He called on the troops to stop following government orders and for the soldiers to seize power themselves.
At a meeting of the Russian Security Council, he again claimed that the Ukrainian government of President Volodymyr Zelensky is behaving like “terrorists” and “neo-Nazis”, which is especially sensitive given Zelensky’s Jewish background.
“I appeal to you again: do not use yourself, your children, women and the elderly as human shields. Take matters into your own hands and you will see that it is very easy to come to an agreement.”
Proposal for negotiations between Putin and Zelensky seems to have stalled
It seems that negotiations between Putin and Zelensky have not yet come to fruition. The Ukrainian president had asked his Russian counterpart to sit at the negotiating table.
However, the Kremlin said in a statement that Zelensky wants to dine in the Polish capital of Warsaw, while Putin wants to receive Zelensky in Minsk, the capital of his ally Belarus.
Putin also wanted to focus the talks on “demilitarizing Ukraine”. Also, Zelensky’s country had to declare itself “neutral”. Contact between the two countries was then broken. Ukraine has not yet responded to the Kremlin’s allegations.
