Van Kalmthout starts new IndyCar
Rinus van Kalmthout failed to finish on the podium in the first IndyCar race of the season on Sunday. The Dutchman had to content himself with sixth place in Saint Petersburg in America.
‘VeeKay’ started fourth at the Florida track and was at the front for most of the race. He took the lead halfway through the 100-lap race, but he couldn’t hold on to that position for long.
In the closing stages of the race, 21-year-old Van Kalmthout appeared to be heading for fourth place, but in the closing laps he was passed by Colton Herta and Romain Grosjean.

The race in Saint Petersburg was won by Scott McLaughlin. The New Zealander left reigning champion Álex Palou half a second behind to record his first IndyCar Series win. The stage was completed by Will Power.
Van Kalmthout has started his third IndyCar season in Florida. Last year the Ed Carpenter Racing driver at Indianapolis Motor Speedway became the first Dutchman since 2007 to win a race in the American class and finished twelfth in the championship.
The IndyCar season continues on March 20. Then the drivers spring into action at the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth.
