Vasco faces dilemma regarding home advantage in Copa do Brasil

Having been on a roll in recent home games, Vasco is facing a dilemma for the next phase of the Copa do Brasil. Should they maintain their home ground at São Januário, where they have been getting good results, or should they play their home game at Maracanã, aiming for a greater financial return from ticket sales. What matters to the fans at this point is to advance to the final of the competition, but the board of directors is making a critical assessment, as their record at Maracanã has not been positive this year, including one of their biggest defeats in history against their biggest rival, the 6-1 defeat to Flamengo, valid for this year's Brazilian championship.

Saint Januarius can be an asset

On social media, opinions are divided. Some fans insist that the game be played at São Januário, as it is the home of the club where they have had their best results this season and have been advancing to the next stage of the competition. Another part of the fans is asking for the game to be played at Maracanã, so that the fans can show up in large numbers, as the capacity is three times larger than São Januário. One thing is certain: we will see a full house, as the Cruzmaltina team has been on a great rise this season, going more than a month without defeats.

Another factor that weighs on the decision to go to São Januário is that the stadium is about to undergo renovations that will completely change its structure. With this in mind, the fans are appealing for the team to choose to play in the cauldron at any opportunity.

Nilton Santos

A third option could be the Nilton Santos stadium, but due to recent disagreements involving Vasco's presidents (Little pebble) and Botafogo (John Textor), cools this possibility. Niltão has already hosted Vasco this year in two classics and the Cruzmaltino came out on top on both occasions, against Botafogo in the Carioca and against Fluminense in the Brasileirão. Vasco has a partnership with Botafogo to play at the stadium while São Januário is under renovation, but this does not include the Copa do Brasil.
