Vasco hires Swiss Maxime Dominguez

On Monday (9), Vasco announced, on its social media, the signing of Swiss midfielder Maxime Dominguez, from Gil Vicente, Portugal. The contract between the club and the athlete is valid until September 2026. Midfielder Maxime participated in 40 matches for the Portuguese team, with six goals and five assists. At 28 years old, the player has played in Swiss and Polish football.

In English, Máxime praised the São Januário stadium, highlighted the passion of the fans and revealed what he already knew about the club: “-I've seen some videos of the stadium, the fans are amazing and I'm looking forward to getting started. I've heard about Vasco, it's Romário's club, an incredible player. As I said, it's a notable club in Brazil. I can't wait to get started.”

The player will not be able to play in the next match that will take place on Wednesday (10), against Athletico-PR, because he was not registered within the deadline to participate in the quarterfinals of the Copa do Brasil.

Maxime Rodriguez Curiosities

Born in Geneva, the son of a Spaniard, Juan Domínguez, his father migrated to Switzerland when he was still a child, where he met his wife (Max's mother) as an adult and built his entire life in the country, but he never forgot his love for Deportivo La Coruña. In fact, he passed it on to his son. Even as a child, Maxime would accompany his father on summer trips to the city of A Coruña (located in Spain) to watch his favorite team play.

Maxime is a fan of Spanish player Juan Carlos Veralon, who officially retired in 2016. Vasco's new signing has already said in interviews that he is inspired by his idol's playing style and that, in a way, he plays similarly to him.

Discovered by Servette FC in Switzerland, Maxime Dominguez played for the team until 2016, when he was sold to FC Zürich and, after that, loaned to FC Lausanne-Sport, also in Switzerland.

It is worth highlighting the fact that the midfielder played for his national team from the U-16 to the U-20, even wearing the number 10 shirt on several occasions. However, the player was never called up to the main team.

Reason for reinforcement

Maxime was hired after Adson's injury, who underwent surgery and should only return to play in November, close to the end of the season. The recovery period stipulated by Vasco's medical department is 10 to 12 weeks.

The athlete is Vasco's sixth signing, besides him, the following were also signed: Philippe Coutinho, Alex Teixeira, Souza, Emerson Rodríguez and Jean David. The Rio de Janeiro team is still competing in the Copa do Brasil and the Brasileirão.
