Biggest 10 km race in Brazil had good results and tribute to Pelé

In a test marked by emotion, Wendell Souza It is Franciane Moura won again in 37º 10 KM Tribuna FM-Terracom, this Sunday (21), in Santos. The fastest race in Brazil gathered 21,000 subscribers and paid tribute to King Pelé, with thousands of people running with the white shirt, with the number 10 on the back. In the victory defined only in the final sprint, by overcoming the Kenyan Vestus Chemjor in the last steps, Wendell secured the third consecutive championship, in 29:07. Franciane, on the other hand, repeated the 2021 title, with 34:34.

In this edition, the King of Football was remembered and had several tributes. Before the start, a minute of applause from the participants and the flight of balloons, carrying tree seeds. The reverence for the greatest athlete in football also included an autograph session with his friends Pepe, Mengálvio, Lima, Edu, Manoel Maria, Abel and Clodoaldo, when delivering the kits. All participants won a white shirt with the 10 on the back, a number eternalized by Pelé, as a symbol of mastery.

The children Edinho and Flávia and the grandchildren Octavio and Arthur were also present to participate in the party. Edinho was responsible for the starts, while Flávia and Octávio ran the entire route. “What a show. Seeing the start and everyone passing by with jersey number 10 is out of the ordinary. Very worthy, own. Today it was a privilege to be the vehicle of this love, this affection, this light. Much gratitude and happiness”, said the son of the King.

“The race in itself is already an emotion, so much so that my coach will be angry, because I ran far below what I was supposed to do, but it was a beautiful tribute, an enormous pride to be able to have this blood of sport, of victory, as always want the best”, added Flávia.

The president-director of A Tribuna and also director of the race, Marcos Clemente Santini, highlighted the happiness of the participants in being part of the homage. “All the runners were moved, the former players and friends of Pelé who went to deliver the kits were also moved. It was a different race. Everyone in the race was happy to pay this little tribute to the King, who took Santos’ name to the whole world”, he said.

More than the dispute for the first place, at a very high level, the race is known for the great popular participation, especially with the pelotons, uniformed groups of companies, academies, associations. For the fifth consecutive year, Cesari secured the top of the list, with 1,252 employees participating in the route.

The public also helps with the party, encouraging the athletes from start to finish, especially in the final stretch, on the beach. Another highlight was the female presence in the dispute, with an incredible 43% of the total number of subscribers. And speaking of numbers, in a test of this size, the quantities are also large, like 140,000 glasses of water for participants, offered by Sabesp.

SPRINT. In the men’s dispute, the Kenyan Vestus set a strong pace from the start, always running at the front, but at km 5 he felt pain in his leg and allowed Wendell to keep his chances. The definition of victory was in the decisive 500 meters, with the three-time champion giving a sprint to turn the game around. Thus, he joined a select group of athletes who have already secured three titles in the race.

“There was a moment I thought I would not win. I’ve been trying to catch up all along. He came out really strong and at the end I had a chance to pull over and turn. I want to thank God, the organization, my family, my coach Adauto Domingues and my team. My chip hasn’t dropped yet. I’m happy to win in this special moment of celebration of the great football idol. A very special victory for me, in a race that has already had so many victorious icons such as Ronaldo da Costa, Vanderlei Cordeiro de Lima and Marilson dos Santos”, vibrated Wendell, still celebrating the fourth place of his girlfriend Susane Martins.

The three-time champion, who is from Lucas do Rio Verde-MT and is 30 years old, is now leaving for Kenya for a training period, aiming for the Brazil Trophy. Vestus, even feeling pain, came very close, just four seconds behind (29min11s) and another top name in Brazilian athletics, Gilmar Silvestre Lopes was third.

In the women’s category, Franciane ran in a group at the top and, upon reaching the beach, with two kilometers to go, opened up an advantage and kept it until the finish line, only being overtaken by Wendell and Vestus in the final meters. “For me it was a great joy, it’s an important race and now I’m twice champion in honor of Pelé. This is a very good race, flat and with a perfect organization”, said the two-time champion, who is from Manaus-AM and is 32 years old. Marcela Cordeiro, from Maringá-PR, was second, with 34min47s, and soon after, Larissa Quintão, from Itabira-MG, with 34min49s.

BEST IN THE REGION. Still among the women, Idamara Vieira da Silva, from Mongaguá, debuted in the competition being the best athlete in Baixada Santista. Triathlon practitioner and coached by Marcus Fernandes, she finished in eighth place, climbing to the podium. Maurício Santana, from Santos, ranked 23rd in the overall male category. Among wheelchair users, Jaciel Paulino secured the fifth championship in the category. The results of all race participants will be published in A Tribuna on the website attribuna.com.br/10km.
