All about WhatsApp
Some Brazilian WhatsApp users recently received Meta AI in their applications, an artificial intelligence tool made by Meta that works in a similar way to ChatGPT and Gemini.
The Meta AI feature, which is also available on Instagram, Facebook and Messenger, acts as a generative AI virtual assistant, accessed through chat.

However, even with everything the tool promises to provide users, many may not have been happy with the update, preferring the previous version. If this is your case, check below if it is possible to restore the old version and how to do so.
How to downgrade WhatsApp
Unfortunately, there is no official WhatsApp tool that can roll back the app to its previous version on both iPhone and Android. However, you can install old versions of the app on Android using the APK Mirror website, which contains all previous variations of the app.
Time required: 20 minutes
- First, make a backup of your WhatsApp conversations:
– Open the application and click on the three dots located at the top right;
– Click on Settings, Chats, Chat Backup;
– Click the “Backup” button, after making sure your main email is selected.
– Wait for the backup to be made. - Open the Google Chrome browser;
– Search for APK Mirror in the address bar;
– In the search magnifying glass, type WhatsApp;
– Click search. - The website will list all versions of WhatsApp, from the most recent to the oldest.
From the second option on the list, it is the previous version. But be careful: anything that says “beta” are the test versions of the application, and should not be installed.
- Choose which option you want to install on your cell phone.
– Click on the arrow next to the version to open the page, scroll to the end and click on the green arrow;
– Scroll down to the bottom of the page again and click on “Download APK”. - Wait for the application to download.
Before starting to download, a window with a warning will appear, saying that the file may be harmful. This happens because the app is not being downloaded directly from the Play Store.
- Uninstall WhatsApp that was already on your cell phone.
Leave the option to keep app data unchecked.
- Go back to the APK Mirror page and go to Downloads.
Click on WhatsApp download and click install, confirming when the system asks if you are sure you want to install the app.
- Wait for the installation and click open.
The application will install normally from the beginning, as is done when downloaded from the Android application store.
Ready! Your app is back to how it was.
How to prevent WhatsApp from reverting to the current version
After doing this entire procedure to get the chat app back to the previous version, you probably won't want the app to update again. To prevent this from happening, follow these steps:
- Open your PlayStore and search for WhatsApp by clicking on the app name;
- Click on the three dots located on the top right side;
- Uncheck the automatic update option.
That's it, your app won't update again without you wanting it to. To have updates automatically again, follow the same process, checking the option directly in the app store.
