Wii U and 3DS game – One YouTuber spent over $22,000 to digitally purchase every Wii U and 3DS game before Nintendo shuts down its eShops next week.

The Completionist, as it’s called, shared a video showing the task, which took 328 days to complete. Including DSi Ware, Virtual Console, and DLC games, he purchased a total of 866 Wii U games and 1,547 3DS games.

All games, included in a Wii U with three external hard drives and a 3DS with four microSD cards, will be donated to the Video Game History Foundation, in order to preserve the digital games that will cease to exist when the eShops of these consoles are closed in March, 27 th.

It took 464 eShop cards, totaling $22,791, to purchase the games. They take up 1.2 terabytes of space on the Wii U and 267 gigabytes on the 3DS.

In order to acquire the games, The Completionist had to deal with slower and less functional versions of the eShop. Also, there is a limit to the number of eShop gift cards you can buy, in order to avoid fraud and such, so he had to visit several different stores to buy the required number of cards. 

To complete, the eShop has a limit of US$ 250 in the wallet, meaning that you can only add a maximum of this amount, you must spend it before adding more.

In addition to all this, only about ten games can be purchased at a time before the 3DS forces users to download them, and it restricts the maximum amount you can spend per day. Purchasing DLCs on 3DS also needs to be done in-game, with some titles requiring partial or full downloads before additional content can be purchased.
