Collection details

At Friday’s show, which showcased Willy Chavarria’s new spring/summer collection, a variety of designs were seen on the runway, including tailoring, loose-fitting styles, accessories and streetwear, as well as a few pieces in collaboration with Adidas. Willy mentioned that he was inspired by the immigrant perspective when creating his collection, featuring pieces that reflect the working class. The collection includes sweatpants and sweater sets, football jerseys and athletic micro shorts, all available for him and her.

The pieces also received a Victorian touch, evident in the sports shirts, collars, cuffs and chests, bringing a melancholic air and highlighting the theme of the collection. The looks were created to express the culture of America and offer a perspective on immigrants, especially the working class. Details such as keys hanging from belts and the inscription with their names on the caps and back of the shirts, which indicates “like an employee who arrives early to open the business”, were highlighted. The word “Chicano” was also used during the show. Willy dared to create such interesting pieces for such a significant theme.

Statement by Willy Chavarria

“And at the same time, I wanted it to feel very American, but also represent the America that a lot of people don't recognize as being a part of,” Willy Chavarria told WWD backstage at his new collection show on Friday.

Willy brought a new collection called America from the perspective of immigrants. The show featured a song by Mexican singer Juan Gabriel, the show was to the sound of a Mariachi band along with the trio Yanritza y Su Esencia, the guests were served tequila shorts and chicken tacos. Another important detail was that on the chairs there was a copy of the US Constitution and at the end of the show stickers were handed out with the following words: “Willy says vote”.
