A South African woman gave birth to 10 babies at a time on Tuesday, South African media report . That would set her the world record for a Malian woman who gave birth to nine babies in early May.

Gosiame Thamara Sithole, 37, gave birth to seven girls and three boys by caesarean section. Mother and children are reportedly all in good health.
“It was difficult for a while, but now I’m overjoyed,” the woman is quoted as saying by local media. “Thank God all my children have come into the world healthy. It’s a miracle.”
Doctors had previously told Sithole and her husband she was wearing an eight-year-old. Two babies went undetected with a scan.
It’s not the first time the South African has had multiple children at once, as she is also a mother to six-year-old twins.
At the beginning of May, the Malian Halima Cissé gave birth to nine babies in Morocco. Often, a pregnancy of so many children at the same time is accompanied by medical complications, which prevents some babies from surviving the entire gestation period.
