World Cup in Qatar

Many of the seventeen remaining World Cup tickets will be distributed over the next week and a half. An overview of the countries that will be in action in the coming weeks in the battle for participation in the global tournament.

Europe: Ronaldo has yet to compete with Portugal

Ten European tickets have already been distributed and three other countries are allowed to go to the World Cup. These three starting tickets are distributed via the play-offs, for which the ten numbers two from the qualifying groups and two countries from the Nations League have qualified.

The play-offs are divided into three paths, each with a semi-final and a final. The winner of each path qualifies for the World Cup.

Russia has been kicked out of the play-offs because of the invasion of Ukraine. As a result, Poland has automatically qualified for the final. The qualifying match between Scotland and Ukraine has been postponed to June at the request of the Ukrainian Football Association.

The other semifinals were played on Tuesday, after which the finals of the two paths will follow on Tuesday next week.

Scotland-Ukraine (in June)
Wales-Austria 2-1

Path B:
Poland (automatic finalist)
Sweden-Czech Republic 1-0 (nv)

Italy-North Macedonia 0-1
Portugal-Turkey 3-1

Africa: Salah and Mane meet

There are only five tickets to be distributed in Africa. The ten group winners of the second round will compete against each other in a diptych with a home and away match. The winner of the diptych qualifies for the World Cup.

An interesting encounter is between Egypt and Senegal, where Liverpool stars Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane meet. Morocco is competing for a World Cup ticket against the Democratic Republic of Congo without Hakim Ziyech and Noussair Mazraoui.

The first legs are next Friday and the returns are next Tuesday.

Asia: still tension, especially in group A

In Asia, the final phase of the World Cup qualifying series consists of two groups of six countries. The numbers one and two from each group will secure a World Cup ticket. The numbers three get one last chance in the intercontinental play-offs.

In group A (Iran and South Korea) and group B (Japan and Saudi Arabia) the direct starting tickets for the World Cup have now been awarded. 

Australia now knows that it has to play the play-offs. The last group matches are Tuesday.

North and Central America: Canada’s Historic Ticket?

In the North and Central American qualification, the best three teams from a group of eight countries qualify for the World Cup. 

The number four in the group participates in the intercontinental play-offs.

The last matches are on Sunday and next Wednesday. As the leader in the group, Canada is almost certain of its first World Cup participation in 36 years. Behind that, the United States and Mexico have a virtual ticket in their hands.

South America: battle for fifth place

The four available tickets for South American countries will be divided into a group of ten countries. Leader Brazil and number two Argentina had already qualified and Ecuador and Uruguay have now also qualified. 

The number five advances to the intercontinental play-offs.

Oceania: Winner to Intercontinental Playoffs

In Oceania, no country can directly qualify for the World Cup. Originally, the 2020 Oceanic Championship would determine which country would qualify for the intercontinental play-offs, but this tournament was canceled due to the corona pandemic.

 A new qualifying tournament was then introduced.

The first round consists of two groups with four countries each. The numbers one and two from groups A and B qualify for the knockout phase, where two semi-finals and one final are played. The winner awaits an intercontinental play-off.
