Zé Vaqueiro opens up about the loss of his son Arthur

The singer is married to Ingra Soares, with whom he has two children, Daniel, born in 2020 and the youngest Arthur, who was born in July 2023, but died eleven months later, in June of this year. The boy was born with a rare disease called Patau Syndrome, which interferes with the baby's development.

In an interview with Quem Magazine, the singer reported. “It's a subject that, for us, will always be very sensitive and painful, what we really do is cling to and trust in God's plans. Because God is and will always be our greatest strength. After all, the moments we live together will be eternal.”.

Grief

After Arthur's death, the singer took some time away from his social media to process everything that happened with his family. “I was missing to restore my energy, my family, reflect a little, pray, ask God for discernment, wisdom. It was 11 months of a lot of struggle and learning. This fight is mainly Arthur’s, since the day we received the report on his syndrome”said Zé Vaqueiro.

“We saw our son fighting with all the strength he had, until the last day of his life. We saw Arthur fighting with all his strength. In the last few days, we always commented: 'Arthur is strong'”added the singer. He also comments on the strength of Ingra, his wife, in relation to loss. “I thank God for the strong woman she is, but I can't even imagine her pain as a woman, as a mother, of seeing her son in that situation and not being able to do anything. It already bothered me a lot to see my son like that and have his hands tied, imagine her as a mother.”. Finally, the singer thanked everyone for the messages of affection and prayers.

Homage

The singer's recently released song, called “I Would Choose You”, was created in honor of his youngest son. It was written by Zé Vaqueiro before Arthur's death.

The event

In the early hours of Tuesday, July 9, 2024, Zé Vaqueiro announces the death of his youngest son, just 11 months old. Arthur, had been hospitalized since birth, due to the diagnosis of the rare disease. In a statement, the singer said that “God knows all things, and decided it was time for our Arthur to join Him and rest. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the love and prayers our boy received while he was among us.”.

In his last month of life, the son of Zé Vaqueiro and Ingra Soares was discharged from the hospital, however, hours after being discharged, he had a cardiac arrest and had to return to the hospital for medical monitoring.

Patau syndrome

According to the website, Your HealthPatau Syndrome, is also known as “trisomy 13”. It is a rare disease that interferes with development and results in malformations in the nervous system, low birth weight, heart defects, cleft lip and roof of the mouth.
