FIFA extends rights of athletes with suspended contracts in Russia and Ukraine
FIFA has extended the right of athletes to suspend contracts with clubs in Ukraine and Russia until June 2024, extending the rule’s previous deadline by one year.
However, the decision to remain must be informed in writing to the clubs by July 1st. Some names in Brazilian football are released because of this rule, such as the defender vitãoof Internationalthe steering wheel Mayconof Corinthiansand midfielder Pedrinhowhich is in Atlético-MG.
It is worth mentioning that the updating of the regulations has some impediments. Players who still have links with clubs in Ukraine or Russia, or who have contracts signed after March 7, 2022, will not be able to take advantage of the rule.
Due to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which began in mid-February last year, football has been suspended in Ukrainian territory since the Russian invasion. O Shakhtar Donetskfor example, participated in the last Champions League. However, the team needed to send their games to Poland, as it was not possible to play in their home country.

However, after this update of the norm released by Fifa, the entity guaranteed that it will not stop there. The message is that this case will continue to be monitored. Therefore, any necessary movement or change in the current scenario will be reflected in possible new normative updates regarding these athletes, if deemed necessary.
