German team innovates when announcing the squad for the Euro Cup

The European Championship starts on June 14th, the second Friday of next month, but the squads have already started to be announced, and the proposal to promote the German team is attracting attention.

Innovative mode

The German football federation (DFB) chose to release the names called up by coach Julian Nagelsmann for the European Championship one by one, and in unexpected ways. The first player to be announced, Nico Schlotterbeck, was announced on a news program presented in German prime time. Jonathan Tah, his name was released on Monday, but not via official DFB channels, statement or press conference.

Tah was announced by an influencer who received national team shirts and the announcement that the player was called up for the Euro Cup. Little by little, new names are being published by other profiles and then commented on by the federation's official profile. The innovative disclosure continues until Thursday, but the DFB has May 26 as the deadline for announcing those called up.

The press speculates that names already familiar to some fans should be left off the squad list. Among them are defender Mats Hummels and midfielder Leon Goretzka, but the reasons for their possible non-call-up have not yet been disclosed by German newspapers.

Known motivation

It is speculated that the decision to publicize the call-up in this way was made to avoid possible leaks, given that the last times Nagelsmann had to call up players, names were leaked to the press even before the official release. Furthermore, the way in which players have been announced also serves to create a greater connection with fans and the people, taking football into everyone's daily life and not restricting it only to moments of matches or competitions such as the World Cup.
