The ANC's decision to reconfigure the KZN and Gauteng PECs will not affect the government

He said the ANC's highest decision-making body across conferences agreed that unity should be the overriding objective, adding that the party must ensure that its leaders work together at all levels in its efforts to renew and build the ANC.

“The CNE agreed that the state of organization in all our provinces requires urgent action after losing the elections. However, the loss suffered by the ANC in the two main provinces required immediate action. There were extensive debates about the steps that should be taken to strengthen the ANC in the two provinces, and the CNE agreed that taking no action was not an option.”

He said the CNE agreed that any action to be taken must be based on fundamental principles. These include promoting unity, focusing on rebuilding the organization's structures, ensuring that the renewal process continues to focus on political education and foundation coursework, and ensuring that leaders work together.

Mbalula said CNE members should help rebuild branches in all provinces, utilizing the capabilities of previous leaders at national and provincial levels.

He said the reconfiguration of leadership in both provinces will be guided in terms of the framework of the ANC constitution.
