Trump's wife admits, in autobiography, that free abortions for US women

The British newspaper TheGuardian, had access this Wednesday (02) to excerpts from the autobiographical book by the former first lady of the United States, Melania Trump, in which she reveals support for women's right to abortion. The book will be released on October 8th.

According to the newspaper, Melania said that women are “free from any government intervention or pressure”. Her position is in line with what her husband and candidate for president of the United States, Donald Trump, from the Republican party, thinks.

Excerpts obtained

In one of the excerpts from the autobiography, Melania states that “Why should anyone other than the woman herself have the power to determine what she does with her own body? A woman’s fundamental right to individual freedom, to her own life, gives her the authority to terminate a pregnancy if she so desires.”.

Elsewhere, Melania compares that restricting a woman's right to choose whether to continue or terminate an unwanted pregnancy would be the same as taking away control of her own body. The former first lady, however, defends, in another section, that young women, under the age of 21, can only have an abortion with the consent of their legal guardians. She says: “I am in favor of requiring young people to obtain parental consent before undergoing an abortion. I realize that this is not always possible.”

Disagreements with her husband

Melania Trump, according to The Guardian, writes in the book that she disagreed with her husband several times on issues such as immigration policies in the United States and abortion. She also reportedly reported details of her relationship with Donald Trump.

In the book she also states that disagreements between her and her husband are part of the relationship and that she prefers to address these issues privately rather than challenge him publicly.

Donald Trump avoids talking about the topic

Presidential candidate Donald Trump has repeatedly positioned himself against abortion, with three exceptions: risk to the mother's life, rape and incest. During the campaign for these elections, he has avoided touching on this controversial issue.

However, last Tuesday (01) he published on his social network, Truth Social, that this time he would not support a federal government ban on abortion, saying the decision was up to the states.

The presidential elections in the United States will take place on November 5th and Melania's autobiographical book will be published next Tuesday, October 8th. The race between Republicans and Democrats should be very close.
