Diana Frances Spencer, born in Paris in July 1961, consecrated as the eternal Princess of Wales and popularly known as “Lady Di”, would have turned 63 this Monday (01/07). The princess became a great reference in the fashion world during the 80s and 90s, and remains so to this day. During her royal days, she developed a unique style, while defying the rules imposed by royalty, wearing looks designed by Catherine Walker and Versace at events, in addition to having a unique way for her everyday looks.

Engagement announcement

In February 1981, Prince Charles and Lady Di announced their engagement. The future Princess of Wales wore a blue ensemble that conveyed the grace and elegance typical of royalty, and in addition to matching the shade of blue with the eyeliner she wore that day, Diana also wore the ring that would later be worn by Kate Middleton, the current Princess of Wales.

Marriage

Diana wore a silk and taffeta gown with puffed lace sleeves, hand-embroidered with mother-of-pearl sequins and ten thousand pearls, for her wedding to Prince Charles in 1981. The dress was designed by David and Elizabeth Emanuel.

Lady Di and John Travolta

In an iconic moment for the world in 1985, Princess Diana wore a navy blue velvet gown to a White House gala and danced with singer John Travolta. The Princess was the guest of honor at the event and Ronald Reagan, President of the United States at the time, hosted the reception.

Event at the “Victoria and Albert” museum

This dress was famous for the day the Princess of Wales appeared whispering at an event. In 1981, in a blue ruffled dress designed by BellVille Sassoon, the princess, who was already pregnant, attended the event attracting all eyes.

Movie dress

In 1987, Lady Di attended an event in Cannes and wore a long light blue dress made by Catherine Walker, drawing all eyes to her, as she wore the dress from the film “To Catch a Thief” by Hitchcock. The piece had been worn by Grace Kelly in the film.

Dress of revenge

The Princess wore the Christina Stambolian dress, days after Prince Charles confessed on a television show that he had cheated on the Princess of Wales with Duchess Camilla (the Prince's current wife) during his marriage to Lady Di. In 1994, the piece became the most talked about of the year, being highly commented on as the “revenge dress”.

Casual style

In 1995, Diana was spotted walking in broad daylight wearing shorts and a T-shirt with sneakers. Lady Di's sporty chic style showed how to balance practicality, class and style, characteristics that she never compromised on.

Out of royalty

In 1996, Lady Di attended an event where she showed the world that she was no longer following the rules of royalty, wearing a dark silk slip dress by John Galliano for Dior, while carrying her favorite bag in her hands: the Lady Dior.

Unique style

The following year, in 1997, Daiana demonstrated that she had developed a unique and mature style, opting for timeless and modern looks, with jeans and white shirts, while wearing tailored sets for appointments and some dresses for events.

Lady Di, consecrated as the eternal Princess of Wales, won the hearts of many people around the world and died in August of the same year (1997), after being seriously injured in a car accident in Paris.
