Sandman will be released in August and the screenwriter says he “started from the place of a fan”

The series adapted from the comic book series “Sandman” by renowned writer Neil Gaiman already has a release date on Netflix. The streaming platform announced that the episodes of the series will be available on its catalog starting August 5th. To the delight of fans, this information was revealed this Monday (6), at Geeked Week.

When asked about what's to come, screenwriter Allan Heinberg said that “It started from a fan’s place.” “I fell in love with the story in college, I bought it every month at comic book stores. Then I dove into comics again, read all of Neil’s original scripts to bring the story to life. I adapted it mainly as someone who loved the work and was desperate to see an adaptation of it. Mainly as a fan.” said Heinberg.

But what can we expect from “Sandman”? We know that it will have a total of ten episodes, with a mix of myth and fantasy, with a special focus on comic book characters. Let’s take a look at the synopsis:

“There is another world waiting for us when we close our eyes and sleep. A place called The Dreaming, where Sandman, the Lord of Dreams (Tom Sturridge), brings our deepest fears and fantasies to life. But when Dream is unexpectedly captured and held prisoner for a century, his absence sets in motion a chain of events that will change both the dream world and the waking world forever. To restore order and right the wrongs he has committed during his long existence, Dream must venture through different worlds and timelines, reuniting with old friends and enemies, and encountering new entities, both cosmic and human.”

The cast includes names such as Tom Sturrige, as well as personalities such as Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Jenna Coleman, David Thewlis, Boyd Holbrook, Gwendoline Christie, Joely Richardson, Charles Dance, Patton Oswalt, Stephen Fry, Mason Alexander Park, John Cameron Mitchell, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Niamh Walsh, Razane Jammal, Nina Wadia, Ferdinand Kingsley and Donna Preston.
