Argentina beats Canada and reaches the Copa América final

On Tuesday night (9), at MetLife Stadium, in New Jersey, Argentina and Canada took to the field to face each other, both teams looking for a place in the Copa América final.

During the game, Lionel Scaloni's team came out on top and beat the Canadian team 2-0, with goals from Julián Álvarez and Lionel Messi. The goal scored in the match was the number 10's first in the competition, in the year 2024.

Argentinean domain

The duel was played more by Argentina than by Canada. In the first half, Canada took the field and, in the first ten minutes of the game, was standing out with greater development, but as the minutes went by, Argentina showed itself to be more integrated in the dispute, and opened the scoring soon after.

In the 22nd minute of the game, Rodrigo De Paul passed to Julián Álvarez, who kicked the ball into the goal, making it pass between the Canadian goalkeeper's legs, leaving the defender with no other options.

The first half was not very balanced, with Argentina dominating more than Canada, but there were no more goals. At the end of the first half, the game was still tied at 1-0.

Victory with a goal from Messi

After the break, Lionel Messi extended Argentina's lead after just five minutes of play, damaging Canadian hopes by reducing the chances of a win or draw.

The goal came unexpectedly: player Enzo Fernández shot towards goal and, at first glance, it looked like the Argentine had scored, but, when analyzing the possibility of an illegal position, the referee noticed a deflection by Messi in a weak touch on the ball, making him the author of the second goal.

The game continued without many worries for the Argentine team, who only needed to maintain the score to qualify. The Canadian team still tried at times, but there was no change in the score, ending the game 2-0.

Classification

With the result, Argentina qualifies for the Copa América final, which will be played next Sunday (14), at 9 pm. The game will be against the winner of Uruguay and Colombia, which will take place on Wednesday (10).

As for Canada, the next match will be on Saturday (13), at 9 pm. The team will play the loser of this next Copa América match.
