Boxers Fontijn and Lacruz qualify for Games at OCT in Paris

Boxers Nouchka Fontijn and Enrico Lacruz qualified for next summer’s Olympics in Tokyo on Saturday. Both Dutchmen picked up a ticket at the Olympic qualifying tournament (OCT) in Paris.

The 33-year-old Fontijn had enough of a victory over Sweden’s Love Holgersson in the quarter-finals in the class up to 75 kilograms. She stepped out of the ring convincingly after three rounds as the winner.

The 27-year-old Lacruz had to reach the quarter-finals of the class up to 63 kilograms and did so with a victory over Albanian Rexhildo Zenel. He also showed himself to be the strongest in the three rounds. (Boxers Fontijn and Lacruz)

It will be the second Games for both Fontijn and Lacruz. They were both there five years ago in Rio de Janeiro. Fontijn then won silver and Lacruz was eliminated in the round of 16.

At the time, Lacruz was the first Dutch boxer since 1992 (Arnold Vanderleyde) to play at the Games. With three bronze medals, Vanderleyde is also the most successful Dutch boxer of all time at the Games.
