Sandra Oh to Play Liberal Feminist in HBO’s “The Sympathizer”

After her great success playing the character Eve Polastri in Killing Eve (BBC America), Canadian actress Sandra Oh joins the main cast of the series “The Sympathizer” from the HBO channel.

Sandra Oh, 51, has accumulated eleven Emmy Award nominations and currently stars in the thriller “Can I Get a Witness”. The actress, who has graced the covers of TIME, ELLE and People magazines, is recognized for her role as Dr. Cristina Yang in the series “Grey's Anatomy”. Oh did not comment on the disclosure of his participation in “The Sympathizer”but information about his role has already been released.

According to the The Hollywood ReporterSandra Oh will play liberal feminist Sofia Mori, who, through the experience of a complex love triangle, embarks on a journey to rescue her own Asian-American identity. A24's production based on the 2015 work of the same name by Vietnamese-American author and professor Viet Thanh Nguyen carried out a long search and selection of Vietnamese actors or descendants on an international level.

The plot of “The Sympathizer” is described as a narrative full of suspense and espionage. The historical fiction will address the life of a North Vietnamese communist spy who, once infiltrated into the South Vietnamese army, seeks refuge in the USA and ends up becoming a cultural consultant of great importance. In addition to Sandra Oh, Robert Downey Jr will also be part of the cast.

The actor known for his work in the film “Iron Man” He will play different roles, such as a CIA agent and an emerging congressman, for example. Downey Jr will also contribute as part of the production team. South Korean screenwriter and film producer Park Chan-wook (“Oldboy”, “Lady Revenge”) directs the film alongside Don McKellar (“Essay on Blindness”).
