Benjamin Netanyahu presents proposal to rename war in Gaza

This Monday (7), during an Israeli government meeting, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu proposed renaming Israel's confrontation with Hamas in the Gaza Strip, which is currently called “Iron Swords”, to “War of the Resurrection.”

Renaming as a symbol of hope

To justify the new name proposal, Netanyahu stated that the current struggle is for the existence of the country and that it will not end until the radical group is destroyed and the hostages, as well as other homeless people, return to their homes, in addition to thwarting any attacks that pose a risk to Gaza. The minister also highlighted that, unlike what happened in the Holocaust, the Israeli people will fiercely resist threats from their enemies.

Criticisms and humanitarian consequences

The suggestion did not please the opposition leader, Yair Lapid, who criticized on Telegram stating that Benjamin “it will not change the fact that, under your watch, the worst catastrophe in Israel’s history occurred”. He also stated that this government would not be that of resurrection, but rather that of guilt.

The families of the hostages captured by Hamas also held a demonstration on Monday (7), the date that marks one year since the attack carried out in Gaza by the extremists, in front of the premier's residence, asking Israel to reach an agreement on the release of their hostages. loved ones. The father of Omer Wenkert, one of those kidnapped, also spoke out about the renaming, saying that “there is and will be no resurrection without returning all the hostages”.

On October 7 last year, Hamas invaded Israel and killed 1,200 people, in addition to arresting several hostages, for not recognizing the country as a legitimate state.
