Even before venturing into the world of superheroes with the productions of 'Guardians of the Galaxy' It is 'The Suicide Squad'director James Gunn was one of the screenwriters of the first adaptations of Scooby-Doo for the cinema. The plot was released in 2002 and gained a sequel in 2004 and brought actors Freddie Prinze Jr, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Matthew Lillard and Linda Cardellini in the roles of the protagonists.
Recently, Gunn suggested that a part 3 is not completely ruled out by Warner Bros. studios and said that the original cast could also return for the new film in a more terrifying R-rated version.
The story began when journalist Brian Particelli shared an interview with actor Matthew Lillard, who plays the character Shaggy, who says he loves the idea of joining his former castmates for a new film. The same interview was shared by actor Freddie Prinze Jr., who plays the character Fred Jones, who said that the studios “they don’t have the courage to make the film”.

Soon after, Gunn responded to the actor's comment, bringing hope to fans of the story, but he reiterates that he is short on time to commit to a new production.
I think they'd do it if we asked. I just don't think I have the time right now!

This year the first Scooby Doo has completed 20 years since its debut in theaters. Released in 2002, the first live-action film in history left its mark on a legion of fans who were passionate about the plot inspired by the Hanna-Barbera animation studio. With its sequel in 2004, the films earned US$ 456.9 million dollars for Warner Bros. Two decades later, fans of the adaptation are hoping to see the cast reunited once again to close the film trilogy.
