Aline Gotschalg reveals vocal cord paresis after thyroid cancer

Aline Gotschalg, 31, said she has partial paresis in her right vocal cord. The diagnosis came after her surgery to remove thyroid cancer, which was performed in August.

On Instagram, the former BBB contestant made a long statement and spoke about her thyroid cancer diagnosis in May of this year. Almost two months after the surgery, Aline underwent an endoscopy, which confirmed erosive gastritis of the antrum, and then she began to experience vocal changes.

“I didn't give it much importance because I thought it could be an effect of the exam or reflux from the gastritis. I thought it would get better soon.”revealed.

After days passed and she did not get better, the influencer said that she had shared with her followers on Instagram some anxiety attacks, caused by the loss of her voice. She also said that she had been to excellent doctors, had tests, taken medication and a corticosteroid injection prescribed by one of the doctors, but there was no sign of improvement.

“Within a week, I could no longer communicate. I didn't have the strength to speak. I even thought it might be emotional, because as I was going to Paris before that, I would be doing Fashion Week. It was a super intense week, full of little problems to solve and I absorbed everything a lot.”said the influencer.

About a day before the trip, Aline realized that there was no way out and she had to cancel the trip. “It hurt a lot. It's months of work and several people are involved. (…) The truth is that we have no control over anything. We make plans, but only God knows everything and all things.”said

After this problem, the influencer decided that she should stay away from social media to focus 100% on herself, because at that moment her biggest priority was to take care of her voice and her emotions. After a few more tests, she finally got the diagnosis.

According to Aline, it is not a complete paralysis, but her right vocal cord no longer closes to the point where it meets the left one. “In order to speak, the two vocal cords need to meet and vibrate to emit sound. And that's why my voice is/was like this”highlighted

Now she has been undergoing treatment with a speech therapist every day. In her case, very intense monitoring is needed so that the condition can be reversed, without the need for surgical intervention.

In another excerpt, she stated that speaking is still a huge effort at the moment, as she is very short of breath and cannot overdo it. She concluded by saying that just having the diagnosis gave her immense relief.
