Anitta is the first Brazilian to win the award

Anitta won and took the award for best Latin music video for “Envolver” during the MTV VMA 2022. The event took place in New Jersey (USA) on Sunday night (28). It is the first time that a Brazilian artist has won in the category. The singer was competing with Bad Bunny, Daddy Yankee and J Balvin.

Anitta, when giving her speech, made a point of thanking her family and friends and also remembering the criminalization of funk and the prejudice against the musical genre in the country.

“I want to say that, for those who don't know, we are making history. It's Brazil's first time here. It is the first time that Brazil has received an award like this. I want to thank my family and my friends.” She went on to say, “I introduced a rhythm that for many years was considered a crime and for those of us who were born there, we never imagined it would be possible.” declared the singer.

In the performance of “Envolver”, Anitta showed funk for one of the biggest international awards. Excerpts of songs such as “Movimento da Sanfoninha”, “Bola Rebola” and Vai Malandra” played before the song that awarded the singer.

“Envolver” has 353 million views on YouTube and more than 368 million plays on Spotify. The song also registered the artist in the Book of Records as “the first solo Latin artist to reach number one on Spotify”.

Artists such as Maraisa, Sabrina Sato and Marcelo Adnet congratulated Anitta. Furthermore, Becky G, a pop singer who competed in the same category, wrote: “I love you” via Twitter.

In the look, the Brazilian wore a long red French dress from Schiaparelli” during the ceremony and wrote on social media in her photos: “Heart of Brazil” emphasizing Brazilian culture on the American stage.
