Brazilians deported from the US report terrible treatment at the American Embassy
– trending news updates, world news, local news and all about nations, states and governments.

Last Friday (5) of July, the sixth flight with deportees landed at the BH Airport concessionaire. They wore white clothes and black shoes, with a white bag in their hands, and walked quickly as they crossed the arrival gate.

Upon landing, the immigrants began to move to look for solutions to return to their homes in various regions of the country; some looked for sockets for chargers, while others were looking to borrow phones to call their families and let them know that they had arrived safely.

Some went to buy tickets to their home states and others did not have any money to do so. G1 managed to interview three of the immigrants and both reported feeling relieved to be in Brazil, given that they had spent months in detention in the United States. One of the immigrants, who did not want to be identified, reported feeling like a dog tied to a chain.

One of the immigrants from the state of Sergipe reported that he was kept in prison after prison. He says that he entered the country with a tourist visa, but that he decided to remain in the country illegally. However, he does not advise anyone to go illegally, because they have to hide, they go from work to home and cannot do anything. Furthermore, they could be caught at any time. He also reports that he hired a lawyer and still was unable to win the case in court.

Another 24-year-old immigrant from the state of Minas Gerais reported that he also felt like a dog and that this was his second time being deported from the country. He was caught on the train at the border between Mexico and the United States, where he was held for 6 months, going from prison to prison.

Treatment of immigrants who are detained

Until the publication of this article, the US Embassy in Brazil had not taken a position on the statement made by the deported immigrants, but it is generally agreed that the treatment reported by the immigrants was not a pleasant experience, given that in some cases they are only allowed to go out in the sun once a week, the food is bad and some agents have no sense of humanity, thus making the detainees feel like dogs.

There was even a case of an illegal immigrant who lost 10 kg; it is worth noting that this comparison with dogs is connotative, since many dogs are treated much better than people in today's society.

Deportation vs. US Elections

Deportation is the process by which immigrants, whether legal (who have committed a crime) or illegal, are removed from a country. In 2024, the year of the US presidential election, immigration is on the agenda, as for Americans, immigration is one of the country's biggest problems and more than half of Americans approve of the creation of a wall dividing the border between Mexico and the United States; if caught by the authorities, some people are detained, others are deported and some are released with an electronic ankle bracelet as long as they present a fixed address.
