OUT OF CONTROL

Still on Record and in partnership with Marcílio Moraes, Reiz wrote the series “Out of Control”, with only four episodes and with actors Milhem Cortaz, Rafaella Mandelli and Claudio Gabriel in the main roles.

The production is a police series focused on the universe of police investigations in the city of Rio de Janeiro, in which a police officer who can be seen as an anti-hero, dialogues with the rules imposed by the system. In each episode, a crime is investigated and solved, showing how the functioning of the city connects all types of residents and visitors.

DONA XEPA

Gustavo Reiz’s first soap opera on Record TV was the well-known “Dona Xepa”, in 2013, based on the homonymous play written in 1952 by Pedro Bloch, which was also adapted by Gilberto Braga in 1977 on TV Globo, and here would win a new reading. The cast included names such as Ângela Leal, Thaís Fersoza, Arthur Aguiar, Emilio Dantas, Márcio Kieling, Luíza Tomé, Maurício Mattar and Giuseppe Oristanio in the lead roles.

The plot shows the daily life of Carlota Losano, nicknamed Dona Xepa (Ângela Leal), a comic marketer who raised her children, Rosália (Thaís Fersoza) and Édison (Arthur Aguiar), alone after being abandoned by her husband, Esmeraldino ( José Dumont), being nicknamed that way for distributing leftovers from his tent to the poor.

SLAVE MOTHER

Probably Gustavo Reiz’s greatest work to date, he was responsible for writing “Escrava Mãe”, from 2016, a plot that takes place before “A Escrava Isaura”, a classic novel by Bernardo Guimarães that marked Brazilian literature. The soap opera won the international award Seoul International Drama Awards, in the Serial-Drama category.

The plot was the first on Record TV to be recorded in 4K resolution (UHDTV) and the second Brazilian to have this format (the first was the remake of “O Rebu”, on TV Globo), with the main cast featuring names like Gabriela Moreyra, Pedro Carvalho, Thaís Fersoza, Fernando Pavão, Lidi Lisboa, Milena Toscano, Léo Rosa and Jussara Freire.

The story begins in 1788 in Congo, Africa, where some natives are taken to Brazil to become slaves. On the journey on the slave ship, Luena (Nayara Justino) is raped by the drug dealer Osório (Jayme Periard), giving birth to Juliana (Gabriela Moreyra) and dying after giving birth.

Juliana, who in the future would become Isaura’s mother, is taken to Engenho do Sol, in Vila de São Salvador, where she is raised by Tia Joaquina (Zezé Motta) and becomes a slave of the Avelar family, being protected by them, which generates the hatred of Esméria (Lidi Lisboa), a slave who never received the same privileges.

BELAVENTURE

His last soap opera on Record TV and also of his career until the premiere of “Fuzuê”, Gustavo Reiz was also responsible for writing “Belaventura”, mostly shown in 2017, with Bernardo Velasco, Rayanne Morais, Helena Fernandes, Floriano Peixoto, Giselle Itié, Kadu Moliterno, Camila Rodrigues and Adriana Birolli in the lead roles.

Set in the Middle Ages, the playwright used his background in history to choose this theme and be able to work with it correctly, especially in relation to tales like King Arthur, Robin Hood, Don Quixote and Joan of Arc. He even adopted poetic freedom to introduce timeless elements.

The plot takes place at the beginning of the 15th century, when the war between Redenção and Valedo, led by Duke Otoniel (Kadu Moliterno) and Count Severo (Floriano Peixoto), respectively, comes to an end with a peace agreement to unify them, creating the kingdom of Belaventura.

But Otoniel is crowned king after a jousting dispute, and Severus, nonconformist, poisons his rival’s wife, fleeing for years. It is at this time that the crown prince Enrico (Bernardo Velasco) meets Pietra (Rayanne Morais), a commoner with whom he falls in love and cannot forget. Ten years later, Enrico and Pietra meet again and decide to fight for the forbidden romance with the help of Bartolion (Paulo Gorgulho), a royal adviser who guides them in their mission to unite royalty and plebs and to face Otoniel, who plans to marry his son to a noblewoman. .
