Trump re-elects as president – Donald Trump wants to become the president of the United States again. He officially stood for election in the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, according to declassified documents. This makes Trump the first Republican to formally announce that he wants to be nominated as a candidate for the 2024 presidential election.

Trump gave a speech on Tuesday evening (local time) at his Mar-a-Lago estate in the state of Florida.

“To make America great again, tonight I announce my candidacy for the presidency of the United States,” Trump told a cheering crowd of donors and loyal supporters. With that, the former president referred to his former campaign sloganMake America Great Again.

Not everyone is eager for his candidacy. There are also Republicans who point out that Trump’s influence turned out badly in the midterm elections.

Initially, Trump seemed to be running for office at the beginning of November. After that, he decided to wait for the result of themidterms.

Those have been somewhat painful for Trump: many Republican candidates for whom he spoke out and candidates who, like him, do not recognize the previous presidential election results, lost to their Democratic challengers.

Trump is exceptionally early with announcement

The billionaire’s announcement is unusually early. In Washington, his announcement is seen as an attempt to cut off other Republicans and to avert possible criminal prosecution.

There are multiple investigations into Trump’s behavior before, during and after his first term as president. For example, the Ministry of Justice is investigating highly sensitive documents that the former president would keep in his private club at Mar-a-Lago.

Now that he has run for office, Attorney General Merrick Garland may be forced to appoint special counsel. That person must then continue the various investigations into Trump.

Unclear whether Biden is also a candidate

Current President Joe Biden said last week that he plans to run for re-election. He will probably make a final decision on this early next year.

In an initial reaction to Trump’s candidacy, the 79-year-old Democrat said that Trump has “dropped” the US and that he will do so again in a possible second term.

Trump was active from 2017 to 2021 as the 45th president of the United States. American media have been waiting for weeks for his announcement that he wants to go for a new term.

Should Trump win the presidential election in 2024, he will become the second U.S. president ever to serve two non-consecutive terms. Grover Cleveland, whose second term ended in 1897, was the first and at the same time the last.
