Parents of former player Waleswska are pressured by widower to pay rent for the house where they live

Seven months have passed since former volleyball player and Olympic champion Waleswska died after falling from the 17th floor of the building where she lived, but the fight between her family and her widower, Ricardo Alexandre Mendes, persists. The reason is related to the assets left by the former athlete. After being appointed executor of his wife's assets, Ricardo wants to legally collect the payment of partial rent for the property where his former in-laws live. The news left people close to me perplexed.

The widower's name has been in evidence since September 21, 2023. Married for 20 years under a partial community property regime, Ricardo was criticized for his cold stance in the face of the tragic event, as he was at home at the time of the accident and did not go down to verify the incident, even though you were notified by the concierge. He also did not help with the funeral procedures and costs, nor did he attend his wife's wake and burial, in Minas Gerais. In the police statement given a few days later, he said that “his wife was a consumer, spent almost all of his fortune and left debts.”

Inheritance not yet divided, but widower wants to receive rent from ex-in-laws

What surprised his family was that when Wal's inventory was entered, they discovered that Ricardo had already anticipated it, and on October 6th, he was appointed executor of the estate. Recently, he went to court with the request that his former in-laws, Geraldo Vieira de Oliveira and Maria Aparecida Moreira, pay him partial rent for the property where they live and be financially responsible for the taxes related to the place.

Although the division of assets has not yet taken place, Ricardo demands monthly payment, by the 5th business day, of the amount that corresponds to 68.97% of the rent, something around R$2,070. The lawyer for Wal's parents claims that the measure taken by Ricardo is a form of retaliation against his former in-laws, who question what happened to the other assets left by the former athlete. Furthermore, Geraldo and Maria Aparecida went to court asking for Ricardo's exclusion from the assets left by their daughter, because he defamed her memory and honor after her death.

She was alone at the scene, and moments before the fall, she sent a text message to Ricardo. The couple was going through a crisis in their marriage and was on the verge of separation, which left her deeply shaken. During her lifetime, Waleswska did not leave any registered will, but she left a million-dollar life insurance policy with her mother and husband as beneficiaries.
