The Federal Government announced this Saturday (11) the opening of an extraordinary credit of R$ 12,179,438,240.00 to help Rio Grande do Sul deal with the consequences of the floods that affected the state. The measure was published in an extra edition of the Official Gazette of the Union and is now in force.
These resources will be directed to emergency actions underway in the state, as informed by the government. The decision was taken during a government situation room meeting, held on the same day. Furthermore, the government plans to issue new provisional measures in the coming days, focusing on credit lines for municipalities.

Provisional measure
The opening of this extraordinary credit adds to other actions already announced by the federal government to assist Rio Grande do Sul. Last week, the government announced an MP with 12 measures to assist beneficiaries of social programs, workers, companies and rural producers.
The total value of this MP includes actions already announced, such as extra installments of unemployment insurance, temporary hiring of professionals and purchase of rice. Measures are also planned to replace medicines lost in the floods, guarantee service at health centers and hospitals, rebuild road infrastructure, Civil Defense actions and emergency assistance from other entities such as the Federal Police, Federal Highway Police and the National Force.
Government notes
President Lula stated that the government is fully committed to helping Rio Grande do Sul recover. “I was there twice to tell the governor, the people of Rio Grande do Sul, the Brazilian people, that we are 100% committed to helping Rio Grande do Sul. There will be no lack of resources to meet the needs”he highlighted.
The Minister of the Civil House, Rui Costa, issued notes that extraordinary credit is essential to guarantee service and the recovery of the state. He explained that this measure avoids compromising the ministries' budget and allows resources to reach municipal and state governments and the affected people as quickly as possible, as well as commerce and companies.
