Polish player Robert Lewandowski could receive his first Ballon d'Or retroactively, according to the Spanish newspaper “Sport”. The award, considered for the player in 2020, was not awarded after allegations made by France Football, the French magazine responsible for awarding the award, that the Covid-19 pandemic had affected the course of the European football season.

The attempt to give the award to the Pole is, according to the newspaper Sport, an attempt to remedy the scandal that could arise following reports of possible pressure from Paris Saint-German on France Football in 2021 for Lionel Messi to win the award. Giving the award to Lewandowski would also be an attempt to recover the magazine's image among the public, since the traditional magazine, responsible for rewarding the best player in the world this season, has been falling into disrepute after controversies over possible tampering with the results.
