West Ham United on 4th line with a defeat at Newcastle
West Ham United have suffered a costly defeat to Newcastle United in the fight for qualification for the Champions League. The London club went down 3-2 with ten men.
West Ham is still fourth after the defeat, which results in a ticket for the Champions League at the end of the season. The ‘Hammers’ have never played in the ball of millions. Chelsea (Tuesday at home against Brighton) and Liverpool (away against Leeds on Sunday) can take over fourth place this round.
Due to an own goal by Issa Diop and a goal by Joelinton, Newcastle already led 2-0 at half time. In between, West Ham defender Craig Dawson was sent off with two yellow cards.

With one man less, West Ham came back strong after the break. Diop scored in the charity and Jesse Lingard made the 2-2 from a penalty awarded thanks to the VAR twelve minutes before the end. A few minutes later, Joseph Willock gave Newcastle the victory: 3-2.
Newcastle took further distance from the relegation zone thanks to the three points. The ‘Magpies’ climbed to fifteenth place and are nine points above the red line.
Later on Sunday, the Premier League game Wolverhampton Wanderers-Sheffield United (9.15 p.m.) will be played. Chelsea and Manchester City will compete against each other in the FA Cup semi-final (6.30 p.m.).
