Filipe Luís talks about the possibility of taking over Flamengo's main team in the future

After winning the U-20 Intercontinental Cup, the team's coach, Filipe Luís, spoke about the possibility of becoming the main team's coach in the future. The former player stated that he needs more preparation and still needs to win the hearts of the red-black fans outside the four lines.

The young coach said that the responsibility is different today, that the pressure is on results and not on performance itself. The former full-back says that he knows the weight of the work and that he feels increasingly prepared for his new role.

Reason for starting at the base

Filipe Luís also spoke about the reason for starting his career as a coach in the youth categories and not directly in a professional team. For the coach, the desire to set up his own committee was one of the factors in his decision. “Having qualified people by my side, knowing how a committee works, assigning roles to each person. I had no idea how it worked,” he stated.

Filipe Luís began his coaching career with Flamengo's under-17s and later moved on to lead the club's under-20s. The coach says that the youth team is the right place to start, and that there, he claims that he has made mistakes and got things right many times, that Filipe as a player has been left behind and that now he needs to earn his place as a coach.

Uncertain future

Regarding the possibility of one day becoming a coach for Fla's professional team, Filipe highlights that he needs to be ready if it happens, “If I come to coach Flamengo in the future, I need to be as prepared as possible and I have to prepare myself more”. The former athlete says he doesn’t know what his future will be like within the club next year. “I don’t know where I’ll be in January, I love this club, I love living in Rio de Janeiro and being a coach, I want to be working and I’ll do everything I can to get there one day (take over the main team)”.

As a coach, Filipe Luís has two achievements in his career with the youth teams. He was the commander in the U-17 team's conquest of the Rio Cup, and last Saturday he won the U-20 World Cup.
