How to put a password on a Windows PC or laptop

The computer we used to do this tutorial has Windows 10, but the entire step-by-step process can also be carried out on Windows 11: the only changes will be the design of the software, but the location of the buttons remains the same.

1. Access the menu

   On your computer's home screen, click the Windows flag icon to open the Start Menu;

2. Select the correct location

   Then look for the gear icon and select the button to open the machine's settings section;

3. Enter the corresponding section

   A robust panel with multiple options will be available. Look for the icon with a doll, titled “Accounts”, and select it;

4. Access the correct tab

   Once in your account settings, select the option that says “Sign-in options”;

5. Start the password entry process

   A series of options will be available, such as fingerprint, security key, etc. Look for the “Password” button and click on it;

6. Confirm your decision

   Look for the “Change” or “Add” button and click on it. If you already had a password set, then you will need to enter it to change it to another one; but if you didn’t, you can add numbers and letters, confirm the password and then just save it.
