Daniel and Anthony's relationship will strengthen in season 5

The connection between Anthony and Daniel LaRusso will be further explored in Cobra Kai season 5, Ralph Macchio said in a recent interview. Speaking to “CBR”Ralph gave some hints about what fans can expect as the Netflix story unfolds, and quickly commented on how Daniel LaRusso's father-son relationship works in the series.

“There are some really cool moments in Season 5 where they come together and help each other in ways that are sometimes intentional and sometimes not.”said Macchio. “It's just based on the fact that they have a more informed story, and that's very different from the Johnny Lawrence/Daniel LaRusso, black and white Karate Kid, you know, good and bad. So now those lines are blurred, and it's really fun to play with that. I feel like on the show, there are moments where it really elevates when we can play with those moments now.”.

Daniel and Anthony's relationship wasn't developed much in the early years of Cobra Kai, with Samantha and her father's relationship taking center stage. Now, Anthony, played by actor Griffin Santopietro, will be given more space in season 5, creating an opportunity to further explore the father-son relationship.

Ralph Macchio also spoke about the future of the series, which is a spin-off of the original Karate Kid films. “The things that are being created, there's kind of a Karate Kid Cinematic Universe right now, where Cobra Kai is, you know, at the center of it, and when the day comes for it to land, there are other areas that we can pursue.”said the actor.

The new year of the series will focus on the long struggle that aims to close the Cobra Kai Dojo, now combined with Miguel's (Xolo Maridueña) search for his father, and Johnny Lawrence's (William Zabka) struggle to put his life in order.

The new season of Cobra Kai arrives on Netflix on September 9, 2022. The previous four parts are available on streaming.
