Fire destroys Casa Warner exhibition in Rio de Janeiro

The Casa Warner exhibition was destroyed by a fire in the early hours of Tuesday (9). The interactive display had been set up since June 14 in the parking lot of Shopping Nova América, in the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro, and would have remained open until August if it weren't for the accident.

What happened

Firefighters were called at around 2:45 a.m., and the flames were only contained around 5 a.m. An investigation is still underway to determine the cause of the fire, and there are no reports of victims or injuries at the scene. However, the entire collection and structure of the exhibition were lost in the fire, including original items from Warner Bros. productions.

The Warner House, spread over 1,500 square meters, was home to objects, costumes, characters and interactive spaces from series and films. Among the items were the Annabelle doll trapped in the china cabinet, the Batcave with all the items used by Batman, including his iconic vehicle “Batmobile”, Platform 9¾ from the Harry Potter universe, along with the Sorting Hat, the Invisibility Cloak and the Hogwarts uniforms, and the famous “Mystery Machine” van from Scooby-Doo, among others.

Statement by the Shopping Mall and Warner Bros.

In a statement, the management of Shopping Nova América reported that the mall will be operating normally, since other parts of the building were not affected, and that they are collaborating with the investigation and providing all necessary support. They also reported that, for people who purchased tickets for dates after the fire, refunds will be made starting Tuesday (9), and that any other questions should be addressed with the company selling the tickets, Ticketmaster. The press office for Warner Bros. also spoke out, claiming that there is no chance of the exhibition being re-done.
