In recent years, quantum computing has gained prominence not only in Brazil, but globally, as a technology with the potential to radically transform several sectors. According to IDC data, investments in this market should reach around US$ 16.4 billion by 2027.
The recognition of this revolution is so significant that the United Nations (UN) declared 2025 as the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology, an initiative that aims to encourage research and dissemination of fundamental concepts in this area.
Quantum computing is based on the use of qubits, which, unlike traditional bits, can exist in multiple states simultaneously. This property allows complex problems, which would be inaccessible to conventional supercomputers, to be solved efficiently.
Practical examples of its application are already emerging, especially in critical areas such as preventing climate disasters and optimizing natural resources.
Node The Developer Conference (TDC), the largest meeting of technology professionals in Latin America, we are already developing panels and lectures on the topic. In this year's São Paulo edition, which took place in September, we held an exclusive forum dedicated to quantum computing, bringing together leaders, researchers and professionals to discuss the trends and innovations that this technology can bring to the future.
One of the highlights was the talk by Gustavo Arruda, founder of QuaTia startup that stands out in using quantum computing to predict climate disasters. He shared the company's experience in using hybrid neural networks to improve the accuracy of weather forecasts, a fundamental step for governments and companies to make preventative decisions regarding extreme events, such as floods.
To understand how quantum computing works in practice, Rogerio Ruivo, co-founder of Dobslitone of the first commercial quantum computing initiatives in Brazil, brought the Mini Gemini to TDC: an educational quantum computer based on Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR).

The equipment is used to teach the fundamentals of technology, in conjunction with Dobslit courses. A similar model is installed at Escola Paulo Skaf, at Senai São Paulo.
The importance of this type of technology cannot be underestimated. In the same area, Alexandre Ramos, professor at the University of São Paulo, noted that simulating chemical reactions with quantum computers could lead to significant innovations that will help tackle climate change.
This intersection between quantum computing and environmental science illustrates how this technology can be an ally in the search for sustainable solutions.
Quantum computing is already used to prevent climate disasters and optimize natural resources.
In addition to Alexandre Ramos, professor Tito José Bonagamba, from USP, was also present at the event and spoke about the 3-qubit NMR Quantum Computer, developed in São Carlos, which is fundamental to Brazilian sovereignty.
Brazil is preparing for this transformation. TDC has been a fundamental space to discuss how we can adapt and prosper in this new technological paradigm. Collaboration between academia, startups and large companies will be crucial so that we can explore the possibilities that quantum computing offers us.
In a scenario in which large companies already have executives dedicated to quantum computing, it is clear that we are on the brink of a new technological era. Today, artificial intelligence is the protagonist, but quantum computing is positioned as the technology of the future. Therefore, we need to prepare for the changes it will bring.
And your company? Are you already preparing for this new era?
