Ronnie Von Reveals He’s Heartbroken After Rita Lee’s Death

Friends for 57 years, Ronnie revealed that he was very shaken to learn of Rita Lee’s death and that it is difficult to believe that a friend has passed away. In an interview for the program ‘A Tarde é sua’, the presenter of RedeTV also told details about the friendship and trajectory of the duo.

Ronnie said that it was his wife Kika who broke the sad news. The presenter said that he was working at the time that the death was reported and was only informed when he got home by his wife. The singer revealed that his wife tried to be delicate and careful in the words to convey the sad information. However, even so Ronnie said he was shaken because he was sure that the singer would get better.

“I’m not well. I’m heartbroken. I was sure she would get better… I’m pretty shaken up and it’s hard to believe”, stated.

The singer told a little about when he met Rita as a child and because of that, he considered her a sister.

“I met her when she was a little girl. She was a little sister to me. We met through a mutual friend. We were Beatles fanatics. My father, who worked in London, would bring Beatles records back and forth. Until it arrives in Brazil to be sold, it would take a long time. So, when I had the new record, I called her asking her to come listen to it with me at home.”, told the singer.

The presenter also spoke about Rita Lee’s first band, where he said that he was the one who suggested the name for the band due to a science fiction book he read at the time. The band ‘Os Mutantes’ was formed in 1966 by Rita Lee, Arnaldo Baptista and Sergio Dias. Ronnie Von recalled feeling honored to introduce his nominated band to the world.
