Wegovy, a medicine for treating obesity and overweight, will be available from August 2024 in Brazil, it is a product from the pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk, from Denmark.

First drug approved by Anvisa

“Wegovy is the first medication with unprecedented weight loss results and proven safety. It represents a milestone in the treatment of obesity, recognized as a chronic disease by the World Health Organization (WHO) since 2013,” stated Priscila Mattar, medical vice president of the Brazilian branch. The medication is indicated for the treatment of adults and children aged 12 and over with obesity, in other cases such as overweight or cases related to it.

Wegovy contains 2.4 mg per dose of semaglotide, while Ozempic contains 1.34 mg per dose of semaglotide. With the satiety that semaglotide promotes in the body, the regulation of blood glucose levels. However, Wegovy is the first medicine approved by Anvisa, which is based on semaglotilda for the treatment of obesity and overweight, both of which must be used with medical guidance and monitoring.
